Retaining Old Site URL

For about a year now I have been running my blog in MT under a simple URL similar to “www.example.com”. In switching over to WordPress yesterday (I still haven’t imported the MT templates and posts and don’t want to until I’m familiar and comfortable with WP) the new URL for my blog is now “www.example.com/wordpress/index.php”. For all my readers who have been coming regularly to the old URL this new one is inconvenient and harder to remember. Is it possible to direct WordPress to use the old URL? If so how might I go about doing this? I’d really appreciate any advice on this, Thanks.
