Retain line breaks in form submissions

When a user submits text on some of my simple forms, the form submission is not retaining any line breaks / paragraph formatting they might have entered into a particularly long entry.
How can i adjust Smart Forms to retain these line breaks? Is there something I can input into the custom javascript area?
