I am the author of Media Library Assistant, a plugin that helps users manage and display items from their Media Library. Two MLA users have started a topic in the support forum:

Restrict Search Results Based On Membership Level

I have installed the PMP plugin and run some tests. I haven’t been able to find a way to restrict access to attachments. I have tried attaching them to restricted posts and assigning them to restricted categories (in the Content Settings section of the membership level definition). Note that MLA extends taxonomy support to Media Library items.

I am willing to modify my plugin to support these features, but it is not obvious how to proceed. I would welcome any information or advice you can provide on actions, filters, API functions or any other features in your plugin I can use to resolve the support topic. Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,

Thank you for using Paid Memberships Pro.

By default Paid Memberships Pro has a filter in place for pre_get_posts to filter searches/archives pages. This can be set inside the Advanced Settings. There are guides available to restrict direct access to files which may help.

Please can you reach out via http://www.paidmembershipspro.com/contact and you can get in touch with our development team to assist you further in coming to a solution.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for your response and the suggestion to reach out to the development team. They responded to my query with some code that uses the pmpro_search_filter_post_types filter to restrict access to attachments. My testing revealed a small defect in the PMP code that uses the filter, which I have passed back to the development team. In the interim I can adapt my plugin to avoid the problem. I will continue testing and post an update here when I have further progress to report.

I have updated my plugin to support PMP’s “restricted Categories” and released a Development Version to allow my users to try it out. You can find more information in this related MLA support topic:

Restrict Search Results Based On Membership Level

I encourage your development team to address the PMP defect I found and reported to them.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
