# Restrict Posts By group name

 * Hello,
    Is it possible for me to use the “group name” to restrict posts? As oppose
   to the current setup where in the post is restricted by capability.
 * i.e
    group01 – capabilities(read, cap1, cap2)
 * group02 – capabilities(cap2, cap3)
 * group03 – capabilities(read, cap1)
 * Currently if I only want to restrict my post for group01 i should type in cap1
   or read or cap2.
    However group02 also has cap2 which means they will also be
   able to see the post. Same goes for group03 since it also has a cap1 and read.

 * Currently the restrictions are based on capabilities although what you suggest(
   basing it on groups) is more intuitive and it’s the model used for Groups 2.x
   which is already in development.
 * Anyhow, regarding the current model and you question … if you only want users
   in your group01 to be able to read a post, then you would have to use a capability
   which is exclusive to group01. You can’t use cap1 because group03 also has that
   and the same applies to ‘read’. What you can do is use an additional capability
   for group01 exclusively:
 * group01 – read, cap1, cap2, cap0
    group02 – cap2, cap3 group03 – read, cap1
 * You must create cap0 and assign it to group01 and also enable it for access restriction
   for this.
