I ran a test of UpdraftPlus by doing the following on a subdomain I use for testing:

    1. I installed UpdraftPlus and configured it with my Google Drive account and it tested fine and backed up with no errors – all files and the database.

    2. Then I deactivated and deleted most of my plugins and several unused themes.

    3. Then I restored the backup and checked all the boxes to basically do a full restore.

    4. None of my old themes or plugins restored. In other words, it does not appear that anything of value restored. I presently use MyRepono on my sites but was thinking of using this plugin and buying pro with the good reviews. Having second thoughts until I get some answers

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Please can you provide a link to your log file for the problematic restore? (You can download it from the wp-content/updraft folder).

It’ll be too long to paste into the forum here, but you can download it to your computer, and share it with Dropbox, or paste it in pastebin.com, or any similar service, and post the link here.

    Best wishes,
    David

    I had 4 log files –

    Here they are – http://pastebin.com/qtLKNeXD

I’m a little confused by all this and would really like to understand what is going on. I have 6 sites and I’d like to use UpdraftPlus on all of them, get Pro.

    Hi,

In the restore log, it looks like your webserver has a very low timeout and killed off the restore after only 11 seconds. (Most webservers allow at least 90 seconds and often much more).

To work around that, you could do a restore in parts – i.e. one entity at a time. e.g. plugins first, then another restore for the themes, then another for the database. (Always do the
    database last).

Alternatively, you can restore manually – the plugins backup is just a zip file; you can unzip it on your PC and upload the contents by FTP into the wp-content directory on your website.

Okay. So I FTP’d in and looked in the wp-content/updraft folder and see 4 zip files. I assume that those each represent the 4 things that are backed up – themes, plugins, other and database. Is that correct? If so, how do I know which is which in case I have to use FTP to do the restore? And how do I restore the database? That seems a little more complex.

    Hi,

If so, how do I know which is which in case I have to use FTP to do the restore?

If you examine the full filename, then you’ll see “uploads”, “themes”, “plugins”, “others” or “db” in the filename, indicating which is which.

And how do I restore the database?

Though I think you’ll be successful restoring piece-by-piece in UpdraftPlus (rather than manually) (because I can see from the log that you’ve already successfully done that with the database), you can restore the database manually by accessing your web hosting control panel and finding the SQL manager in there (usually phpMyAdmin) – and then uploading the UpdraftPlus database backup (the db.gz file) into that (it is standard SQL and compatible with any such tool).

    Best wishes,
    David

    David –
Thanks for your help. I think I understand how this works and how you all do things. I’ve successfully restored my site, had to manually activate all my plugins but the site is restored. My ISP (1and1) has been an issue so thinking about changing. I’ll play around a little more before switching my production sites to Pro.
    Thanks,
    David
