Restore with workbench – how?
-
Hi, I just messed up my installation by installing W3 Total Cache and activating it on my own server with runs iis6/mysql..
I have of course full local full access to my server and mysql, but no access through the browser to the admin pages/login page – they just turn out blank..
How can I restore my website DB with My SQL workbench that I have installed on my server??
I have used the encryption option too the the backúps..
Thanks a lot!

Hi Daniel,
We don’t have/use MySQL Workbench, so can’t say much about that.
There are various articles with guidance on restoring using different methods, and decrypting encrypted databases in the FAQs:
http://updraftplus.com/support/frequently-asked-questions/However, in your case, your may be able to deactivate/remove W3 Total Cache by using FTP to delete wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache.php, and removing its files from wp-content/ (look for files in that directly (not sub-directories) with the words “cache” and “php” in them – I think there’ll be one called something like advanced-cache.php and another whose name I forget – remember this is free advice – if you want pro support then there are support packages in http://updraftplus.com/shop/).

Can someone please help me understand why W3TC is not compatible in this use case?
Hi Frederick,
There’s no generic incompatibility between UpdraftPlus and W3 Total Cache that I know of – a previous version of W3 Total Cache had problems with its object cache on scheduled tasks (which affected all backup runs), but I believe you fixed that in the latest version?
Daniel – if you want to work through the problem you had causing a blank screen with W3 Total Cache on your site, then please open that as a new forum post in the W3 Total Cache forum (i.e. not in the UpdraftPlus forum). If you open it in the UpdraftPlus forum then it sends me an email alert every time there’s a post, which will just be spam for me if you’re pursuing a W3 Total Cache problem.
Best wishes,
DavidCaching in general (and lots of things) interfere with WP Cron, adding a system call to WP Cron is what I typically recommend if your WP Admin activity is not extensive enough to allow for various levels of caching.
Hi Frederick,
Thanks for replying. That’s a bit opaque to me… please can you explain:
1) “adding a system call to WP Cron” – what does this mean?2) What kind of WP Admin activity is “not extensive enough to allow for various levels of caching”?
In UpdraftPlus’s case, we set a transient that contains data about the backup run. When the run resumes (e.g. after the previous one gets killed off by the web hosting company for running too long), we use that transient to see how far the run got. In a previous version of W3 Total Cache, when we called “get_transient” to recover the transient, there was no data to be found – did you fix that in the latest release? Daniel – this sub-discussion is nothing to do with your white-screen problem, so you can ignore this digression.David
To Frederick Townes:

It has nothing to do with updraft, more likely to do with I’m using windows 2003 server with IIS/PHP fastcgi/MySQL.
As you stated, it should work with IIS,(but not all features) but however your plug-in is written for the apache/Linux market primarily..
The crash happened after enabling some feature in W3TC , so i need to restore my website. I do not know why since I’m not a coder so I cannot find the cause by analyzing the code.. 🙁
Thanks for replying!

Wel thats what I want if possible.
I do not have a lot of external tools that compromise security like myphpadmin. Having myphpadmin installed and accessible is an invitation to hack the server.
It’s my own server that i standing within my own office and I have direct access to it through RDP, so I manage it though the workbench. Much easier and much much more secure. How can I accomplish this? (if not possible at all. Then maybe this could be a addon feature suggestion that you could buy??)
Working on deleting the plugin, lets see how it goes..
Any help much appreciated!
Thanks! 🙂

I figure that..
Done! 🙂
Errh?
I do not know why the WP forums have set the thread as “[resolved]”.It’s not resolved.. 🙂
Hi Daniel,
For some reason the WordPress forums aren’t sending me the new posts on this thread, which they are doing for everyone else’s.
I don’t use MySQL Workbench, but it has a manual page to do with importing from an SQL file here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/wb-server-administration-manage-data-import-export.html. If you need specific help on MySQL Workbench, you’re unlikely to get a response in the UpdraftPlus forum here (typically it’s just me responding) – you should look for a community forum for MySQL Workbench (perhaps this one? http://forums.mysql.com/list.php?113)
The “resolved” mark is referring to the status of this post within the UpdraftPlus forum, and means “no known problem within UpdraftPlus”. We use it to keep track of issues that we need to apply changes in the UpdraftPlus code for.
Best wishes,
David@daniel, sorry for the trouble you can always backup your settings file and if your site crashes you can simply replace the file with the previously working version (if you must) test iteratively.
Thanks Fredrick,
I’ll try to figure something out..
