I have recently built a new site for a client and I want to move it to the new hosting environment before the domain is actually transferred. This way I can test on the actual server but I’m concerned because normally when I use the plugin I am prompted to enter the domain url. Will using the IP address mess things up when the domain comes online with the db references. Also would this have any negative seo impact?

    Thanks!

  • Hey Kokoruz,

Yes using the IP will mess things up. If you use the IP then you will have to reprocess the install script as it takes care of all the issues involved updating the URL.

What you could do is install the site using the IP, do your tests/demos then once the IP is resolved just reinstall the package again with the URL name… Many crawlers just ignore IP so if its not sitting around for a long time SEO shouldn’t really matter…

    Cheers~
