Hi! I have my sql file of wordpress blog. I wanted to start blogging few month ago so I installed wordpress to my ubuntu server and load sql file back. My contents(posts, images) seems fine on user’s point but in admin page says my images are missing.
First, my Image’s thumbnails are missing in media. Second, I can’t regenerate thumbnail with plugin or wp-cli it says “Full size images are missing”.
If I view post the images are available to view(but the image’s src is something like this https://i0.wp.com/pol4.dev/wp-content/uploads/1/cfile3.uf.2771B533579728391B1DB6.png?resize=500%2C499).
Is there any way to restore my images? It doesn’t need to be original image but I want to fix my media.

  • Hi, unfortunately an SQL file only contains the post/page content, metadata, etc etc

The images themselves would have been left on the original hosting server where you uploaded them. Fortunately though, it sounds like you have URLs to the images so while it may take some elbow grease, you’ll have to visit each of the image URLs to download/save the image.

You can then upload it back into your site and update the image location in the post/page.

Hi, Jarret! Thanks for your support. Is there any automated function to do that? If not after downloading each images do I have to remove image from media and reupload?

@pol4bear not offhand unfortunately, though there may be a plugin available in WordPress that has a functionality that would handle that so it may be worth trying some searches on the plugins directory to see if anything shows up
