Restore individual subsite

I want to make sure I understand the restore process for a single subsite in a network install. Obviously rolling back the whole database is not ideal since it will roll back all sites. Is it just a matter of figuring out the subsite ID and then restoring the wp-content/uploads/SITEID files and the wp_SITEID tables?

I couldn’t find anything about this in the wordpress docs or googling. Everyone is trying to use plugins. Hope it hasn’t been answered many times before.
