• ‘I’m trying for 2 days to sort out my access problems on my site . Initially I could not get into the dashboard. I stopped the TheTravelTheme and most of the plugins. Thus I can now get into the site, but. However I don’t get my problem fixed. I worked on the site for a few weeks & it was all OK. I backed up my database before the problem & again this morning. I now intend to restore from back-up.
How to go about: should I delete all my files via FTP and load it all new. What is the chance that my exiting database is still OK, without overwriting it with the back-up?
The orignal TheTravelTheme is in 3.4 & twentyEleven. I intend to upgrade to 3.5.1 after loading and go to twentyTwelve.
Would somebody have advice it this should work?’

  • As per http://wordpress.org/support/topic/i-cannot-log-in-6?replies=16 we did warn you that reverting back to TheTravelTheme would just re-create your original login problem. So why would you want to restore an old backup when you know that this will simply result in you going straight back to square one with a login problem? Just update to WordPress 3.5.1 asap, use another theme and try re-activating some of your inactive plugins.

Thanks Esmi. I had my whole sit set up on theTravelTheme. It worked fine for weeks while I was building it up. I wanted to set it up from what I initially started off with (i.e. the original unchanged version which worked. At one stage yesterday I managed to get back into the system after going back to theTravelTheme. I switched off all plugins and put the back one by one. When I reached contact-form-7, geo-meshup & shortcode-exec-php it started giving me problemas again.
Will it work to keep the present database and reload via FTP the the original folders & files & theme as said above.

No – you cannot upload a database using FTP. You need to review Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup.

‘I understand that, I mean would it make sense to the existing database as it is und just reload the other files & folders via FTP, then ungrade to 3.51 & twentyTwelve and then, if the database also seems to be messed up reload by backedup databse via phpMyAdmin?’

Upload what other files & folders?

‘The WordPress Site that I access via FTP, e.g. where I disabled or reinstated the wp-content/plugins & /themes’
Is not here where I should expect that my problem lies and not within the database? Perhaps I am missing something in the concept?’

Is your site running properly at the moment?

Currently it is running, I did reload wp-content/plugins & wp-content/themes from my original files (those I loaded right at the beginning). I am still on the “faulty” database. Again I did put the plugins on hold (wp-content/plugins.hold) as I still had problems. I presume that I now have to restore the database, to see if that solves the problem?
