Support » Installing WordPress » Restore Blog After Moving Host Companies

  • Hi Guys,
Seriously hoping you can advise or help out here. In basic we are trying to work out how to restore all our databases from our original blog. We did not originally have our back up files but have finally received them from our old hosters. But we are uncertain now how to restore it all back to a working order so we can create a back to move or tranfere the content.
We have the original blog files from our ftp download and have now received the following from the old hosters.
The rest off our blog we downloaded via our ftp and have been informed these files will res-erect our databases. But when we use Tools:- Import is does not recognize the file format.
Cold anybody please advise. Sorry this all started with a falling out with our original hosters.

    Hi rottyranch,

Login to your new hosting account via FTP and upload your files (except the databases).

The rottyran_xxxx files are your databases. You probably only need one of them for this installation, so take a look in your config.php file for this:

define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘rottyran_xxxx’); // The name of the database

Which will tell you which database you were using, which you can then send to your new host and have them restore it to your account for you.

Should be an easy job for most hosts 🙂

Thank you so much for your help guys n galls. I always good to know there is somebody wiser out there-will try the second method tonight as first method did create any good results other than getting out twitters back for one day-lol-thanks a million
