Support » Fixing WordPress » Restoration

  • Hello,
I have just moved servers and so forth and theres been a lot going on.
I have a .sql file that has all my posts and all that information in it.
So I thought I’d just reinstall WordPress (done..) and then restore the sql file (..not done)..
I’ve tried restoring the whole file, deleting files then replacing them, but nothing seems to work.
How can I do this successfully?

  • I think it’s supposed to be the other way around – restore your database, then upload your WP files (make sure you’re using the same wp-config.php file). The main point is that you keep the table prefix the same throughout.
    Wait – nevermind.

    Two ways:
1 – Upload the wp files exactly as you downloaded them, but check that wp-config.php has the new connection info.
    2 – Restore the database
    The blog should work now.
1 – Install wp and move any additional folders (images etc) into place.
2 – Drop all the database tables
    3 – Import the database
    Again it should just work.

    Thanks. It’s worked a treat.
