Responsive Widget Visibility (Feature Request)

  • I am sorry if this is not the right place to request for a new feature. I’ll be happy to post this request at the appropriate place if directed.

Widget visibility is one of my favorite Jetpack modules, and I think it’d be way more powerful with responsive conditional loading. For example, Jetpack could show/hide the widget depending on the screen width/orientation of the device in which the page is loading. The advantage of this over display:none is that instead of simply getting hidden, the widget will not load, thereby making the webpage smaller and faster on mobile devices. With mobile devices exploding in popularity, I think many will appreciate this feature.

    Thanks.

If there’s a plugin that already does this or a tutorial on how to achieve this, please let me know.

First of all, thanks for the feedback! This is definitely the good place to suggest new features and improvements to existing modules.

That sounds like a good idea, but it’s probably outside of the scope of what the Widget Visibility module is trying to accomplish at the moment.
I took note of your idea here, and we’ll consider it when making improvements to the module.

Until then, I’m afraid I don’t know of any plugins that could help you, but you might want to search the repository, it’s a gold mine!

I understand that this doesn’t fit in with the other conditions in Widget Visibility, so thanks for taking note of it. Hopefully someone creates a tutorial or plugin for this.
