Support » Plugin: ARVE Advanced Responsive Video Embedder (YouTube, Vimeo, HTML5 Video ...) » Responsive video and mobile tap targets

  • I have been obsessing a bit lately on optimization and discovered a strange thing. When you make the video container responsive (as this plugin does a nice job of), google takes a point off of moble user experience. Something about the way my vimeo embed resizes the buttons for the player controls creates tap targets that google thinks are too close together.

The tap target <button class=”play rounded-box state-paused”></button> is close to 2 other tap targets.
The tap target <div class=”overlay in”>Aw shucks. Th…current setup.</div> is close to 1 other tap targets.
The tap target <div class=”overlay in”>Aw shucks. Th…current setup.</div> is close to 1 other tap targets.

Funny thing is if you take the responsive aspect out, which looks terrible on your mobile device, you get 100% user experience. Ironic for sure.

I know these metrics are not infallible and it doesn’t really make much difference. But I am curious if anyone (maybe the plugin developer) has noticed this and knows if there is a way to have the best of both worlds.

    Just curious.
    Great plugin.

  • Also noticed that the plugin creates a redirect from http to https. Wondering if that is necessary?

Well if you are obsessed with satisfying robots over humans I have no interest in helping you, because what you explain simply makes no sense to me to get involved in this at this point. Especially because if this:

On your 2nd post: Could you clarify where the plugin creates a “redirect” as you call it?
