Just a note about using TablePress with the responsive extension set to scroll or flip.

I was unable to get the horizontal scrolling working on Chrome in OSX. The problem was with a script called smoothscroll. As soon as I disabled smoothscroll, the horizontal scrolling on TablePress worked.

The theme I’m using is Elegant Themes Extra and the smoothscroll toggle is under Theme Options. I think that this is also the case for the popular Divi theme too.

    I hope this helps others!

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

Can you please post a link to the page with the table where this problem happens, so that I can take a direct look? Thanks!

    Regards,

    Hi Tobias,

Sure, you can view the table here.

I’ve actually re-enabled the smoothscroll.js on the theme because after the change a user was unable to scroll down pages on the site.

Anyway, this means that the horizontal scrolling bug in Chrome on OSX is back. You can click and drag selecting text that is out of frame to view it, but you can’t scroll there.

    Thanks for looking into this!

    Hi Cliff,

    thanks for the link.

I’m also using Chrome (on Linux right now), but I can’t see anything wrong here.
I can scroll the page up and down, and I can use the arrow button in the bottom right corner to get back to the top.
Also, I can scroll the table horizontally using the scroll bar directly below the table.

Could you please clarify what the problem is and what I need to do in order to reproduce it? Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tobias

Thanks for looking into this Tobias. I suspect that you probably won’t be able to duplicate this problem on Linux, which I know makes it hard to look into.

The problem is that, on OSX in Chrome, using a horizontal scrolling gesture (using a two finger sideways motion on trackpad or one finger sideways on magic mouse) the table doesn’t scroll left or right.

The horizontal scrolling motion does work on OSX in Safari and, I think, on Windows 10 browsers too. It’s only a problem with OSX Chrome specifically, *and* it’s only a problem when the theme’s smoothscroll.js is enabled.

There was a presentation of the website today, so as a solution for the presentation, I added the horizontal scrollbar on Chrome using the ::-webkit-scrollbar CSS pseudo element, which is why you were able to see the scrollbar there when you looked.

With the horizontal scrollbar there, I think that’s good enough, so there’s no need for you to look into this issue any further on my behalf.

Thanks again for looking into it and for making a great plugin!

    Hi Cliff,

I now also checked on Chrome on a Mac and now I see what you mean. The scrolling is also not working for me via the trackpad.

However, I can only assume that this is caused by that smoothscroll.js script. They are probably intercepting the JS touchstart event, but then don’t pass it through to the browser.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing that I can do about this in TablePress 🙁

    Regards,
    Tobias
