responsive height, solution?

I’ve noticed that I can make the width of the map responsive. That is perfectly documented.

I would however also like to make the height responsive. The ratio between width and height should remain constant.

There is a solution here:

But I am unable to combine the given solution with the code that this plugin is generating.

Is there some way to make the height responsive as well?
