Resolve shortcodes within posts

I’m trying to get the shortcodes within the posts to resolve, but not having much luck figuring it out. I believe it requires a code change to the php and found an article covering nested shortcodes (http://www.sitepoint.com/wordpress-nested-shortcodes/), but my php knowledge is extremely limited, so none of the attempts I’ve made have worked.

Can anyone help out?
