“Resize other columns” may not be working?

I have a column which is either shown or not shown depending on a condition. I have the “resize other columns” option ticked.

However, you can see that the main page content is still shifted to the left, making me believe that the “resize other columns” option hasn’t worked – because I expected it to take up the full width of the page.
