When you reset permalinks, all links will change to what you have reset. Review: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks
Hi Krishna,
Thanks for the reply. I understand that, but will it change the short URL at all? Or just everything prior to the short URL.
Hi there,
I am not sure about this, but the way I envision this working would that your short URL wouldn’t have anything to do with your long url, but rather point to the post number, like if you had permalinks set to the default. So, my guess is that you’ll be fine and your short URL will be the same, but that’s an empirical question, and one for which you could report back with your findings!
Hey Paul,
These were my thoughts exactly. I just wanted to make sure prior to changing them.
You should be okay, but it’s not a function of the short URLs. Where your short URL points is a matter for what short URL tool you’re using. Like YOURLs (which I use) point to the post name, so domain.com/break-bread being changed to domain.com/break-break would, indeed, break do.co/bb (pretend that’s my short URL 😉 )
BUT!
Since WP is clever, it knows that domain.com/break-bread has been changed to domain.com/break-break so this is what would happen:
User goes to do.co/bb
do.co/bb goes to domain.com/break-bread
domain.com/break-bread goes to domain.com/break-break
Done.
Not great, but it should keep on keeping on.
Looks like everything seemed fine after making the switch! Yay!
Thanks for the help guys.
