I guess the issue may be related with your browser’s cache, I’ve tried to add the product to the shopping cart letting in blank the required fields, and wasn’t possible, please, look the screenshot in the following link:

That is strange. The reason we noticed this is because a visitor had added to cart without filling in any information.
I tried myself now and as you say it’s not possible. So hopefully it was a one time coincidence.
