# Required field settings bug?

 * As you’re aware from previous contact over the years I’ve been using the Participants
Database (and its related plugins) for many years on the website page at [https://guardian-angels.es/en/single-parent-registration/](https://guardian-angels.es/en/single-parent-registration/).
I have not made changes to the PD plugin settings for a couple of years at least
and it’s all been working fine, but it appears a recent update – possibly to
your plugin (or WordPress) may have broken it. I login to the WordPress admin
fairly frequently and update WordPress and the various plugins when available.
I just became aware on Friday that it is no longer possible to process the front-
   end form at [https://guardian-angels.es/en/single-parent-registration/](https://guardian-angels.es/en/single-parent-registration/)
as it keeps telling me I have to check a couple of required checkboxes on the
form. But I HAVE in fact checked both boxes. I have tried checking and unchecking
them, refreshing the page etc., but this is preventing submission of the form
completely. This is a serious problem for the site owners, as they can no longer
receive registration requests from single parents (who are typically already
quite anxious and desperately needing help when they try to register).
 * You are welcome to test submitting the form yourself. I have sent you a separate
email containing screenshots of the page showing the error messages, of the relevant
settings within the PD plugin settings, and copies of recent debugging files
for the plugin. I must re-emphasise that I have not done anything to the settings
of the website or the PD plugin for many months.
 * The most recent successful registration on the site received was on May 21st
so it was certainly working OK up until then. I’ve no idea which update to the
plugin may have introduced this problem, but it was probably one you made available
since that date. The site is currently running the latest version of your PD
plugin v 2.1.5. WordPress was also updated to latest version 6.0 on this site
in recent weeks. Site is otherwise running on PHP v7.0.3.1 (Not updated beyond
that for some time as some other plugins would not work with later versions).
 * Can you investigate and advise what the problem might be. Oh and if I wanted
to confirm whether it will still work with a previous version of your PD plugin
can you advise how/where I can download earlier versions to test?
 * Many thanks
    Gareth

 * I took a look at the documents you provided and it does look like the field configuration
isn’t wokring asd it should. It’s not the required part, it’s the options part
that isn’t working right. In the HTML, the value of the checkbox is blank, so
   it never validates.
 * I’m not seeing this issue in my tests, but one problem I face in supporting this
is that I don’t have a way to test php 7.0, the earliest version of php I can
test is 7.4 and I’m not seeing any problems at that version.
 * I would suggest you try using an “unchecked” value in your checkbox options,
   try an options setting of
 * `yes,no`
 * Yes, I know this was working before, and you shouldn’t have to change your configuration,
but I don’t know what’s causing the problem I see there, so this suggestion may
   help.
 * There are a couple of problems in the error logs that are caused by other code(
user activity log and your theme), fixing those may or may not be necessary,
but it’s a good first step.

 * Hi Roland. Thanks for the quick response. I tried your suggestion but it still
insisted the fields needed checked. And oddly, the default seting was and remained
as unchecked, but whenever the form loaded in the browser those fields were pre-
checked. In the end I’ve fixed it by using radio buttons instead of checkboxes
and now it’s alllowing the submissions to go through OK. Thanks for your help.
