Require Email Activation not working anymore
-
I have a client whose site is getting lots of bots registering fake accounts every day.
For a new user to register on this site email activation was required, but when I tested it today as a new user (using a different email from the one I use as an administrator), I could register automatically so I was automatically logged in without any further action. No wonder why we´re getting all those bots registering like crazy!
I had the Registration Action set to “Require Email Activation” for this site (for instance when the version of UsersWP was 1.0.21). Now I could not find that setting under USERSWP > Register, and I didn´t find anything on the plugin Changelog that could help me in finding that setting under another tab or something.
Then I finally found out that this option is now only available through a paid extension (Moderate User Registration).
Please don´t tell me that, in order to recover the option to require email activation for new WP user registration, I have to tell my angry customer that he has to pay a subscription. That would feel like telling him that his website was kidnapped.
Please tell me there is an easy (and free) way to have this WP functionality back.
