These are my request from the plugin:

    1. Display Listing base on category or metadata through shortcode i.e

    [businessdirectory cat-slug='medical'] OR

    [businessdirectory cat-id='1,2,3,4']

    [businessdirectory postmeta='location']

    2. How to Display category label through shortcode i.e.

    [businessdirectory-label 'parentonly']
    [businessdirectory-label 'parentchild']

    3. Display Few Post Metadata on sidebar listing [enhance plugin] instead of Business name and Photo only.

    4. I Notice that new form field cant be used as Category or Tag, then is there a way i can hide certain category from general category display.

Pls if the above is not available or will not be added to the plugin soon, i will like it if you will refer me to the template i can hack to have this features

    Hi Goodmuyis,

Thanks for your input here. We actually have a shortcode that will display listings based on categories now. It’s listed here, along with all the others:

    http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/valid-bd-shortcodes-2-1/

    #3 and #4 I’m not 100% clear on–
    3) Are you asking about the listing widgets? (Featured, Random, Latest)

    4) Where is it you want to hide categories? What do you mean by “general display” here? A link to a page would help.

    3. The Enhance Category Plugin can be used in Sidebar right?
but it only display Listing name and Photo, is there a way one an certain details from the Business listing alongside(like website or phone).

    4. From BD menu > Manage form fields, we can add new fields, but those Field Association cannot be used as category or Tag type. What i want is add Location as category and i dont want the Location be visible in category (Not the listings itself)

    3. No, enhanced categories affects the main directory view (adding images, allowing parent/child navigation), the submit listing page (allowing parent/child navigation). It will affect the Category drop downs in the sidebars, but it has no sidebar widget to display itself.

Right now, the widget doesn’t have configuration for adding additional fields, you’d have to edit the widget yourself to do that.

    4. You can have only 1 field of type tag in a listing. Chances are, you already have one defined if you can’t get another one. You can have a Location field if you want and make it invisible as follows:
    – Create the field
    – Set it so it doesn’t display on the excerpt, listing or search views. It will only be collected on submit.

You can’t make a field invisible in some list views (e.g. category) and not others (e.g. the entire directory)

BD doesn’t have a setting for that right now, but we can consider that for a future release.

What about a feature in the Regions module to be able to import cities?

For example, if you have a 1000 record CSV file with addresses in it, one field could contain city and list say 250 different cities in total. When importing the CSV, these cities can get automatically imported as cities in the regions module so you don’t have to enter it manually. Should be quite easy.

Also if the regions in the module were able to stay as text fields rather than as IDs it would be beneficial when handling CSV files. At present when I export the database I look at city and see a number like ‘312’ which might represent “New York”. The database would be more functional and useful if the CSV actually said “New York”.

    Hi Goodmuyis,

Actually, I take my statement above back–our directory does have that feature if you leave the “Show listings under categories on main page?”. unchecked under Directory Admin->Manage Options.

@seanjr88–I’ll be happy to answer your question here, but please open a new thread in the future for unrelated issues.

The CSV file can import the region data for a listing, but it can’t import the set of all regions to start with. The reason is that the region hierarchy is difficult and clumsy to represent in a CSV file.

When you have the regions in the plugin using the mass-import feature (you can import lots of regions at a time, but it has to be done through Directory Admin->Manage Regions in the Region text field area by pasting), listings WILL import with the text of the city field in the CSV file. That’s expected to work, but you have to have “New York” defined as a region first.
