  • You of course have permission to use those photos or they are your own, right?

sashita, don’t double post because it will be deleted!

And as for your request: I don’t think any decent plugin writer would want to be your accomplice in stealing images from other websites 🙂

I mentioned this in the other post, but not here, so let me clarify: this project that I’m trying to put together is for my eyes only. It’s essentially a notebook/clipbook/journal for me, and I don’t plan on sharing it. I doubt anyone who posts images on the internet would object to me printing out a photo and sticking it in a notebook, and this comes out to the same thing. Almost any software can be used for good or for evil, but knowing that it can be used for evil isn’t necessarily a good enough reason to not make it: CD ripping software can be used for pirating, but it can also be used to play my CD on my iPod, a legal, legitimate, and non-harmful use.

I’ll admit that this hypothetical plugin does sound like one that is more readily used for evil than good, so I’ll explain my project and why I think it’s has a worthwhile and ethical audience. I’m a pretty avid knitter, and the internet is full of us. Everywhere people are posting photos of things they’ve made and patterns they’re distributing for free (craftster.org and knitty.com, for ex) and I’m getting to the point where I have a lot of patterns that I need to organize, plus books I want to track down, resources, ideas, and notes on projects I’ve done. Wikis are a very attractive solution for many reasons that I won’t go into here unless you want me to. Being able to save a free pattern along with some photos of people’s interpretations or stitch charts is an important part of this. I think a lot of knitters (and crocheters and woodworkers and crafters and hyperorganized music buffs and cooks and homeowners and interior designers) would find this sort of a tool very useful. People who want to steal photos can still do so today by downloading and reuploading manually. But people who want to use it for this legitimate purpose can’t because the tool isn’t available. I would write it myself if I knew how but I don’t, so I’m putting out this request for someone more knowledgeable to help me out. I’d really be happy to be able put together a special install of WP with the wiki plugin and this plugin for a personal project book package. I think it would be a really cool use for this awesome software.

(and mods: sorry about that, feel free to delete the other one)

I ended up going with TiddlyWiki instead of WP with the plugin, and it’s working well for my needs. The image thing is still a pain, but oh well.

    Thanks anyway.
