    Hi Team Yoast,
We are using the Yoast Duplicate Posts plug-in on our site easyrecipedepot.com. We just used the rewrite and republish capability for the first time today. We use CoSchedule to manage our editorial calendar including assigning tasks to our team and scheduling social media promotions.

At the time the post republished today, it INSTANTLY wiped out everything that we had set up for that post in CoSchedule. We lost our task list and all of the social media posts we had scheduled disappeared too.

There seems to be some sort of bug/incompatibility between CoSchedule and the Yoast Duplicate Post plug-in. We have notified CoSchedule of the issue as well.

Can you please look into it? The posts that we used the Yoast plug-in to rewrite and republish were —

    https://easyrecipedepot.com/hershey-bar-banana-bread/

Thank you in advance for your assistance! We have hundreds of posts that we want to rewrite and republish.

    Best wishes,
    Carrie

  • Hi @kenarry!

We understand that you used the rewrite and republish feature of the Duplicate Post plugin on a specific post. When you did that it wiped out the data you had entered into the CoSchedule plugin. We can see how this is a cause for concern!

We would like some more information to help us troubleshoot the issue.

    1. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    2. Is this the plugin you are using https://wordpress.org/plugins/coschedule-by-todaymade/?

    3. Are you using any other CoSchedule plugins or just that one?

    4. Is your Duplicate Post v4.1.2?

Thanks for your response! To answer your questions:

    1. Yes, all of our non-Yoast plugins and themes updated.

    2. Yes, https://wordpress.org/plugins/coschedule-by-todaymade/ is the plug-in that we’re using for CoSchedule.

    3. We are not using any other CoSchedule plugins – that is the only one.

    4. Yes, our Duplicate Post is v4.1.2

I appreciate your help to troubleshoot the problem and look forward to hearing what you find out.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Carrie,

We downloaded and installed the latest version of the CoSchedule plugin (v3.3.3).

We then tested it out on a default set-up with the TwentyTwenty WordPress theme and only the CoSchedule plugin and Yoast Duplicate Post plugin (v4.1.2) enabled on the site.

We created a new ‘WordPress’ in the calendar section of CoSchedule, which then created a new draft post. We then added some dummy tasks, as well as some attachments (an image attachment and some text in the text editor). Then we set it to published.

Then we went to the Posts overview and clicked on the ‘rewrite & republish’ option on the post that was created by CoSchedule. We then added some text and made a few changes and then clicked on the ‘Republish’ button and it was successfully republished. We then went back to the CoSchedule calendar and it retained all of the tasks and attachments for that WordPress post.

To this end, we were unable to reproduce the issue. In your case, when you checked the CoSchedule calendar after republishing the post, the ‘WordPress’ post itself wasn’t showing in the calendar anymore? Or was it showing but not having any more data such as the tasks or attachments? Were there any error messages or notifications that appeared?

We would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur, as it’s possible there could be a potential combination of plugins or themes that could be causing this issue on your site, as we were unable to reproduce it with a default set-up and only those 2 plugins enabled.

The fastest way to do this is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen

Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.

As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

    Hi Michael,
After you clicked on “Rewrite & Republish”, did you make any changes to CoSchedule?

I think that’s where we’re running into the issue.

We’re taking an old post that was originally published years ago at a time when we were not using CoSchedule. We then choose “rewrite & republish” and assign the post a new date for republication in WordPress.

AFTER THAT, we can see the “draft” created by the Yoast Duplicate Post Plug-in on our CoSchedule calendar. At that time, we are then adding the tasks and scheduling social media for the post in CoSchedule, giving it color coding etc.

Then in WordPress, we schedule the post to be republished. Once the post republishes, we still see it on our CoSchedule calendar, but it’s lost all the color coding, the tasks and the social media have disappeared.

In your test, you added tasks and stuff in CoSchedule to the ORIGINAL post not to your duplicated draft. Try creating a new post and backdating it a few weeks. Then “rewrite & republish” and give the post a current or future date. THEN add CoSchedule tasks, give it color coding in CoSchedule and then republish it and see what happens.

My suspicion is that when you update the original post, the CoSchedule updates are not being transferred to the original post.

    Best wishes,
    Carrie

    Hi @kenarry,

As you suspected, we checked with our developer and he found the following:

The CoSchedule integration doesn’t seem to store any information about a post in WordPress. It manages everything on their servers, so the changes can’t be copied to the original post.

The Rewrite & Republish in our workflow is intended as temporary, so when it’s republished we just copy all the data into the original and delete it. Since CoSchedule is unaware of this and just detects that the post has been deleted, it’s likely that every piece of information attached to it appears to get deleted too.

To make the Rewrite & Republish workflow and CoSchedule compatible with each other, there would need to be some custom code in CoSchedule to detects that the page is being republished by Duplicate posts.

It doesn’t look like this is something that we can do on our side. Have you heard anything back from CoSchedule about being able to use the rewrite & republish feature in Duplicate Posts?

    Hi,

This thread has been marked as resolved due to a lack of activity by the original poster and that there is no further response.
