    Thank you for your suggestion and for detailing the reasoning behind it.

    I placed the button and form below the drag/drop files area to save space and make the opening/closing scrolling less disruptive visually. Are you suggesting to move just the button, or to move both the button and the form to the top of the screen?

    I will investigate the work required to implement your suggestion as an alternative to the current placement, and changing the option in the “Media/Add New Enhancements” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab so either choice can be made.

    Any additional details you can provide are welcome. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

    Thank you David for your quick response!

    Ideally we would have also the collapsed form above the upload section.

    The page could look like this:
    Step1 (optional): Define your images’ meta info [Bulk Editor button]
    Step2: Upload your images [upload box]

    Thanks,
    Nimi

    I have released a new MLA Development Version dated 20150907. This version contains an option to move the Bulk Edit area to the top of the Media/Add Media (Upload New Media) screen as you proposed. To do this, go to the “Media/Add New Enhancements” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab and check the ‘”bulk edit” area on top’ box there.

    This version also contains a new “Reset” button that lets you clear out all values entered in the Bulk Edit area so you can easily add new values for a subsequent batch of uploads.

    You can find step-by-step instructions for using the Development Version in this earlier topic:

    If you get a chance to try the Development Version please let me know how it works for you. I will leave this topic unresolved until the new features go out in the next official MLA version.

    Thank you for your patience in awaiting this new feature.

    Thanks for the update David! This is much more intuitive now with the bulk editor above the file upload section.

    I ran into an issue with the dev version but maybe I should try installing it on a fresh site. The bulk editor function stopped working properly. It isn’t updating the meta fields according to the values I enter.

    I will try again though on a fresh site to see if this issue still exists.

    Thanks for your response with the good news; I am happy you like the new feature.

    I just tried a quick test and the Bulk Edit on Upload added a Caption to the images I uploaded. If you still have trouble with “updating the meta fields according to the values I enter” give me a bit more information and I will investigate. Which meta fields are not working? Is this on the Upload New Media screen or the Media/Assistant screen? What WordPress version are you using?

    Thanks for any additional details you can provide.

    I have released MLA version 2.15, which contains the Bulk Edit on Upload relocation feature described above.

    I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems with the new version or further questions regarding the Bulk Edit on Upload features.

    Sorry for the late response. I’ve taken some time to install and test the latest version on 2 of my sites:

    It seems that if the “bulk edit area on top” setting is enabled, then on the media upload page the blue button that opens the editor (“Open Bulk Edit area”) isn’t displayed.

    Looking at the HTML, this is what I see (notice the “display: none”):

    <div id="mla-add-new-bulk-edit-div" style="display: none;">
    <input id="bulk-edit-toggle" title="Open Bulk Edit area" class="button-primary alignright" type="button" name="bulk_edit_toggle" value="Open Bulk Edit area" />
    <input id="bulk-edit-reset" title="Reset" class="button-secondary alignright" type="button" name="bulk_edit_reset" value="Reset" style="display:none" />
    <strong>IMPORTANT: Make your entries BEFORE uploading new items. Pull down the Help menu for more information.</strong><br />

    On a different note, a nice addition to this feature would be to include an “Always Open” setting so that the bulk edit is automatically displayed when accessing the media upload page.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Thanks for your update and this new report. Thanks as well for posting the HTML markup surrounding the missing button.

    This is an MLA defect caused by some WordPress changes made for version 4.3.x. I have found a fix and will post a new Development Version shortly. The new version will also have an option for automatically opening the Bulk Edit Area when the Media/Add New screen is first displayed. Thanks for that good suggestion.

    I will post an update as soon as the Development Version is available. Thanks for your ongoing interest.

    I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20151127 that contains a fix for the missing button issue you reported. It also contains a new option for automatically displaying the Bulk Edit area when the Media/Add New screen appears. To activate that option, go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab, scroll down to the “Media/Add New Enhancements” section, check the ‘”bulk edit” area initially open ‘ box, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save Changes to record the new setting.

    I’ve installed the development version and the new features work great. Thank you!

    I noticed however that the mapping of taxonomies and exif when adding new media isn’t working. That’s because this is the dev version right?

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your update and for giving the new Development Version a try.

    You wrote “mapping of taxonomies and exif when adding new media isn’t working“. I just ran a test on my system and all of the IPTC/EXIF mapping rules for taxonomy terms are working for me. I tried using a mapping rule and adding terms in the Bulk Edit Area, and all of the terms were assigned to new items as they were uploaded.

    Can you check your settings and try again? Are you using WPML or Polylang on your site?

    Thanks for any additional information you can provide.

    I have found and fixed a bug in the 20151127 Development Version that prevented taxonomy term mapping when the Bulk Edit area was moved to the top of the Media/Add New drag and drop area.

    I have uploaded a new Development Version dated 20151201 that contains the fix. If you get a chance to try the Development Version please let me know if it resolves the problem you alerted me to.

    Thank you for your continued help is testing this new feature.

    I tested the latest dev version. It looks like some of the fields are getting updated now but not all of them.

    As you mentioned, this happens only when the “bulk edit area on top” setting is enabled.

    The fields that weren’t updated are: Caption, Alternative Text, Description, and Alt. Tags, and Author.

    Thanks for your quick work and your report. I regret that I did not find the problem before you did.

    I have uploaded a new Development Version dated 20151202 which contains the final (I hope) fixes for the “bulk edit area on top” feature.

    Thanks for your patience and understanding.
