Replacing the URL by a "hyperlink" text (7 posts)

I'm looking for a way to replace long URL in comments by a text saying "hyperlink" (or whatever).

Long URL make IE6 go crazy and I tried a plugin that makes those URL shorter, but I don't like it . I know some sites have a feature that if you put a link (e.g. http://www.google.com) it will appear as "hyperlink" and that link will link to google.com.

Anyone know how I can do this?

  3. You mean like turning all links in comments to tinyurls? Even when you do that, the long URL will have to be resolved, and in the end, IE6 will break. At least I think so.

Hmm... No, this is not what I mean... well, I think.

Let's say someone writes: "Hey, go look at http://wonderfulsite.com"

I'd like to see: "Hey, go look at "hyperlink"" and people can click on "hyperlink" to see what the person wanted us to see...

  5. Ah. Hmm. Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure there's some sort of smart filtering going on in the comments that you could override in your functions.php, but off the top of my head, no.

Though I did find WP-Chunk, which will truncate long URLs from

    http://www.gohsfkjdsf.com/sdfklsdf/dfsdf/sdgfsdfsd/sdfsdfds to http://www.gohsfkjdsf.com/.../fds

    Will that help?

Well, I already have a plugin to trunk them... I am sure something must exist. Here is a blog I go on (http://blogues.cyberpresse.ca/lagace/?p=70722296) and it is on wordpress and there is that "hyperlien" each time someone puts an URL.

Maybe they found a custom hack?

  7. You'd have to ask them.
