    I’m trying to find any source for customizing or replacing the “Error establishing a database connection” message. I’d like to make this my own but haven’t found where it lives yet.

    You may customize the above message by editing the following file:

    wp-includes/wp-db.php

    It contains the error messages you may experience if there is an issue with your application database.
