So this is a newbie question:

A friend asked me to revamp her WordPress site using a much different theme. I imported her content to a MAMP installation on my local computer and made all the changes there. Once that was complete, I used All-in-One WP Migration successfully to move the site to a staging folder on her server so that she and her colleagues could review the changes. (Thanks. All-in-One WP Migration made that part easy.)

Now we’re ready to go live with the revamped website. I’m confused about what steps I need to take in Cpanel to prepare for the site move? Is it as simple as renaming the wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes folders on the old site and then using All-in-One Migration to export/import the site between staging and live — or is there more to it than that?

Any help would be appreciated. I’ve looked at several tutorials, but they all assume you’re moving the site manually, not using a modern plugin like All-in-One WP Migration.

    Hello bifriedman,

    You will need to:
    1. Create a new wordpress install on your live site (e.g. site.com)
    2. Export the site from your staging using the plugin (e.g. staging.site.com)
    3. Import the site on your live site
    4. Save permalinks

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Thank you, Yani. Are there steps I need to take to archive the current WordPress site at site.com before I install my revamped site there?
