Replacing a broken site.

  • I currently have three WP sites. Two are fine. One is seriously broken. Its symptoms run the gamut from links in various admin pages for a number of plugins, not functioning, to the inability to drag and drop the social media buttons in Jetpak, to options in several plugins not functioning to the inability to run 3 out of every 4 plugins I try.

It wasn’t always this way. It just got worse, over time. Deactivating plugins to find the cause, haven’t resulted in any resolution.

Since I have the server space, I was thinking of doing a fresh install and adding the needed plugins one at a time, ensuring everything works, before going to the next. What I’d like to know is what is the best way to get my current content into the new installation.

  • The WP Migrate DB plugin will let you move the content from one site to another.

Install it first on the new site, activate, and use it to find the correct URL and path to the new site. Then install on the old site, fill in the values from the new site and export. Use phpMyAdmin or a similar tool to import into the new database.
