• If you’re still using WP-SpamFree, you might have noticed it’s no longer supported.

I’m the original author of it and was lead developer of it until early 2010. Wp-SpamFree hasn’t been supported since late 2013.

WP-SpamShield is an advanced fork of WP-SpamShield and a direct replacement for it. It will import your settings and do a smooth upgrade without any changes to your site. For more info on how to upgrade from WP-SpamFree to WP-SpamShield see this.

It’s also got a lot of improvements over it’s predecessor, including improved page load speed, improved security, more features (spam protection for 3rd party contact forms, registration, to name a few.)

  • Hello,

Thanks for posting this information. I have noticed WP-Spamshield and seeing the 5 full stars I tried it, then realized it had the same look and feel as WP-Spamfree when looking at the setup section, and thought indeed it might be a fork. Now I am also aware it does much more than your former plugin which has worked a treat for me. Thank you so much for you work!

    Best regards,

    Hi Mélodie,

    I’m glad I could help.

You’re very welcome! Have a good one. 🙂

    Hello,

Scott: I just thought, if you are the person who runs polepositionmarketing, what about an update on the wp-spamfree related page to tell the visitors that it has a successor?

    Best regards,
    Mélodie

    Hi Meylodie,

I’m not the person who runs PPM. 🙂 I was the original author of WP-SpamFree until early 2010, when they picked it up. They no longer support WP-SpamFree (since late 2013).

    From that page:

Sorry! We are no longer able to provide support for the WP-SpamFree plugin, as we currently do not have the internal resources to maintain the plugin or respond to support requests. We apologize for any inconvenience.

That’s why I posted here…in case anyone was looking for updates or help.

    Have a good one!

    Hi Scott,

Ok I get it. You run Red Sand Marketing then?

    Hi Meylodie,

Yes, you would be correct. 🙂
