I’m pretty new to the blogging community. After a year at WordPress.com I decided to make the switch to WordPress.org. I used Bluehost to host my domain (already established in wordpress.com as http://www.livinginanotherlanguage.com), and decided to do the nameserver switch.

To be honest (after extensive internet searching) I had NO IDEA how to tell if it had been a successful switch. I also changed my WordPress.com domain address back to the original http://www._____.wordpress.com.

After more internet searching I found that maybe the next step for me was to change the domain names in me admin of wordpress.org (I had been using a temporary before then where I fixed the site to be the way I wanted). I went ahead and did that.

NOW my problem is, I can no longer go to my wordpress.org admin because it redirects me to my wordpress.com dashboard and my original (old) domain address.

ahhh! I hope this makes sense.

I was just wondering if I can leave it and hope that it will eventually kick over to bluehost…and all will be fine? Or do I need to somehow do something to get back my temporary URL that Bluehost gave me? I have not changed any settings in Bluehost.

And do I need to keep my old WordPress.com set to the old (default) domain? http://www.____.wordpress.com? OR can I switch it to the new one? http://www.livinginanotherlanguage.com?

Ok, I figured out how to get it back to the temporary URL. My question is, when will I know my domain url has switched? And how long will my domain name redirect to my old (original) wordpress URL?

Your domain name seems to be set to BlueHost now:

    http://www.whois.com/whois/livinginanotherlanguage.com

How long ago did you switch those? It can take up to 72 hours to be fully propagated.

Should I be worried that it states this:

    Status: clientDeleteProhibited
    Status: clientRenewProhibited
    Status: clientTransferProhibited
    Status: clientUpdateProhibited

? It won’t give me any problems will it? Now I’m receiving 404 errors on all my pages with my temporary url. When can I go ahead and change the settings/url’s back to http://www.livinginanotherlanguage.com?

And am I going to need to change anything else? Or is that literally it?

I just switched them earlier today, but they quoted me 2-24hours. I understand it may take longer…Just wondering when I should change my blog urls?

I would wait a while longer, or check with BlueHost about it.

What you are doing is Pointing your Name Servers to Bluehost from the company where you registered the name. It can take up to 72 hours, but is normally done in under 24 hours. You are probably safe to do it now, but you can always change the URL back if it’s not working.

    The part you pasted about:
    Status: clientDeleteProhibited
    Status: clientRenewProhibited
    Status: clientTransferProhibited
    Status: clientUpdateProhibited

Those are for your domain registration. It looks like you are not transferring your domain registration yet to Bluehost. You can do this also, but have to wait until after 60 days from the domain purchase date to transfer it. Your site will still go live with Bluehost just fine with the Name Server pointing until then.

Thank you for the help! I realized the transfer had finished within 2 hours, but I had my wordpress downloaded under public_html/wordpress/ folder when it needed to be downloaded under public_html. It was an easy, stupid fix. Thankfully Blue Host was able to let me know about that!

    Thanks for you help!
