Repeat ask – changing folder names of site

  • Hi folks – I asked a wee while ago – but heres again.
    Im about to rename some folders of my site – like the main /wordpress/ folder – whats the best way to catch any indexed pages and redirect them.
    Im using index.php in the root atm to flick thro to the main blog folder.
    Other than some 404 method – any ideas – my host makes it hard to edit the 404 cos i cant easily get at htaccess.
    ideas please?? thanks

  • Rename:
    From Options, change the two URL’s
    THEN
    Move the files around on the server

    As for redirects – that would normally be handled by a .htaccess but you say you have problems.
    How many files / pages are involved in this ?

    Hi Podz – atm there are only about 12 posts – I know this is insignificant compared to many sites – but these are hitting good relevant search pages (for us) – I have re-written my 404 to ask nicely to navigate onwards to the post or page.
    In my site root I have in my index.php :
    <META HTTP-EQUIV=’Refresh’ CONTENT=’0;URL=”wordpress/”‘>
    Can I add more lines to that??
    I know some of you guys are rolling on the floor 🙂 but for us an index page is an indexed pages – esp since I havent submitted anywhere yet.
    (maybe Im being overprotective and this will be fine as I start promoting it)
    Thanks
