Support » Networking WordPress » Rename Site Address (URL) in Multisite

I need to do a simple rename of a site in multisite. For example:

    from domain.com/blogsiteONE to domain.com/blogsiteTWO.

Is that as easy as going to the Network Admin level and changing the individual Site Address (URL)? Let me know if there is anything else I must be aware of.

    Thank you in advance.

(PS: I cannot believe how congested the forums have become over the last 15 years when I started developing in WP!)

  • Hi @scottlowe

    Here’s a step by step procedure for changing your sites URL;
    1. Add the new domain to cPanel
    2. Go to wp-admin > network > Settings > Domain
    3. Find the domain you want to change
    4. Click Edit
    5. Put in the new domain
    6. And then use a redirection plugin, for example – https://wordpress.org/plugins/seo-redirection.

I hope this helps; if not and you’re willing to change the sites URL manually, you can check here – https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url

Thank you for your reply, however that is not exactly what I want. I was not very clear.

The domain name is OK. I have a sub-folder structure for my multisite installation and I want to rename the Site URL of a single blog, only. For example:

    Change mycolors.org/GREEN

    to mycolors.org/RED

I use the phrase “Site Address (URL)” because that is how the blog/site is listed in the Network Sites page. Sorry for the confusion.

WordPress didn´t consider that the main page / parent page would change in any way. So it is the easiest way to return with the previous steps to a “normal site”, change the urls and then “activate” Multisite again.
