I created a category called Podcast. I then made it a menu link. It was beautiful. The url was http://www.mywebsite.com/podcast. Perfect!

Then I needed to have content at the top of the podcast category with the actual podcast post below it. I used the “Post for Page” plugin (it’s awesome). So then I change my menu to be a page link instead of the category link. Well – crap, now the url is: http://www.mywebsite.com/podcast-1. That sucks.

So I figured since the podcast category slug is “podcast” that that was the reason I couldn’t use “podcast” (not podcast-1″) for the permalink of the new page I create.

So I renamed the category to free up the slug name “podcast”. The didn’t work. So then I deleted the category all together. That didn’t work. There is nothing in my blog with the permalink or slug “podcast”. But every time I try to name a new page “podcast” it changes to “podcast-2” or “podcast-3”. When I type http://www.mysite.com/podcast into the address bar I get an XML page. But when I go on my server there is no xml files to be found.

I just want the menu link for the podcast page to be the easy to remember, perfect url that it should be: http://www.mysite.com/podcast. Plain and simple. But apparently it is not plain and simple.

Anyone know how to fix this?

    I did that already.

I even went into phpmyadmin on my server to see if there was still a category named “podcast”. I searched every table in the database and did not see “podcast” as a slug, tag, permalink or category.

OK. I just gave myself an ulcer but I figured some things out.

I had a couple pages that would not let me rename their permalink for some reason. So while in “edit page” I clicked on “screen view” and clicked “slug”. I then edited the permalink using the slug instead of the “edit” box under the page title. It worked – go figure.

This was an accidental fix but it worked and maybe it will help someone else.

As for my original issue. There was a conflict with a plugin so I just turned it off.

I am going to go drink now.
