Removing WP-Footer() / License requirements

I am using an installation of wordpress software (installed on a server space I own) to run a blog for my company, I want to remove the “Powered by WordPress” footer from the blog. I want to know if
i) I will be violating any licensing requirements if I do so
ii)If yes can I purchase the license for the software and thus remove the footer
