• If I wish to remove a mastodon profile that was made using this plugin, how does that work? I tried deactivating the plugin but the author account was still showing in Mastodon.

Sadly there is no wide spread solution to do that. that means, Mastodon does not support (at least that is what I know) a “delete profile” activity. So you have to wait until Mastodon clears the cache and removes abandoned profiles.

I will implement that kind of a feature as soon as there is a widely supported solution.

    Sorry 🙁

    Thanks for replying.

I do think that this is a serious flaw and a warning should be in place before people go ahead and make profiles for themselves that they cannot remove.

    Cheers,

I bring this up in the different working groups to see if others might have found a custom solution for that and/or to bring this up for the next version of ActivityPub.

If you could find a way to login to said Mastodon account outside of wordpress altogether, in a mastodon-environment, it would be fixed. You could delete it, move it and change profile settings from there.

I think I found out how to do it with ActivityPub, now I have to see how I can send it on plugin deactivation or deletion.

Are we talking about the same thing? You want to delete the profile of your WordPress user from the fediverse don’t you? So that your blog-user will no longer be found on mastodon or other servers?

This plugin does not create mastodon accounts!

For some clarifications: The profile you see when you search for your blogs user on Mastodon is only a cached version of the information of your blog user (only public data). It is by far not an “account” on Mastodon. So the worst thing that could happen, is that these information (meta-data) will float around for some more days and will finally be deleted if the cache becomes invalid.

Aha! That was totally unclear to me, I was under the impression that the plugin had created an actual account somewhere under the hood of my wordpress. Which then exists on mastodon.

I did not understand that what you see on mastodon is just a cache of the wordpress blog. So this helps, if i would deactivate or delete the plugin, the ‘account’ will indeed vanish from mastodon search?
