Support » Fixing WordPress » Removing items – comments and things from sidebar

  • Hi,

I hope someone can help me out here, I’m completely new to WP and I have searched for the answer throughout the documentation but found nothing that helps me.

I would really like a minimalist blog. Which means I would like to remove all traces of:

    1. comments – for users, no links to click on, no forms, no nothing. They shouldn’t see anything or be able to post anything.(I prefer personal feedback through email published elsewhere on my site).

    2. Things that show up in my sidebar namely:

    a. Categories (I don’t need different ones for now)
    b. Meta – all the RSS and whatever else those things are showing there.

Ideally the only things I need in the sidebar are: the archives, the about section and I guess the search engine.

I have very little knowledge of PHP, so am not able to hack into the code myself, I wouldn’t know where to even start.

Please, please help, as I can’t use WP in this present form…

  • Ok, an update, I have figured out how to remove the items in the sidebar myself. The code was sufficiently like html for me to successfully remove them.

However, although I can see the code for “comments” it is completely alien to me, and I have no idea what to change to remove all trace of comments completely.

    Can anyone please help?

Ok, I see to be on my own here…

Not to worry, fortunately I found this post that has resolved the issue for me.

This is obviously a common issue and a baffling one to solve unless you know php (perhaps the developers might consider a better solution in future versions), I hope that this link helps someone going forward.
