Removing index.php in Permlinks etc.. (5 posts)

I did a search but couldn't find an answer.

I was wondering if it is possible to remove index.php in front of permlinks. I had it on my last version of wordpress but i think it did it automatically.

When i remove it from "custom permlinks" it does it, however a 404 error comes up?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are on a Win server you can NOT remove it.

Well, I don't know if Feyod is on a windows server, or a *nix box, but you can't do it without URL rewriting enabled.

on a *nix box running Apache, the mod_rewrite module needs to be enabled. Talk to your host.

If it *is* a windows server, you might want to direct your host to a couple of very stable and well tested rewriting ISAPI modules.

The second one has a free 'lite' version which is excellent for people self-hosting.

    both are completely wordpress compatible.

then you'll have to do the rewriting yourself.

You could have just googled this, like I did.
