 * I want to remove all traces of ‘comments’ from this site. The site is a website
   not a blog.

 * Also the sub menus don’t reveal often under their respective top menus – which
   is strange

 * In the pages and posts menu, select “Quick edit” and uncheck “allow comments”
   on each page/post, then “update”.
 * When creating new pages and posts, deselect “allow comments” option, which can
   be found below the page/post editor.

 * You can also disable comments in: Settings – Discussion – Allow people to post
   comments on new articles
