Support » Plugin: Blackhole for Bad Bots » Removed plugin a long time ago, still seeing blackhole-related queries

  • Resolved Cheryl

I was looking at logs for my website and see a great number of queries to index.php?blackhole=, each with a different number after the =. I haven’t had the blackhole plugin on my website since around last March — I disabled as it wasn’t working well with caching plugins.

Are there any leftover database tables, etc that I should be looking at to get rid of this or is there a way to block these queries?

If you removed the plugin via the WP Plugins screen, all database tables and options should have been removed. You can always verify by searching for the following strings:

There should be no traces of either of those strings if you removed the plugin via the Plugins screen.

    OK, thanks.
I didn’t find tables leftover from the plugin.
I went ahead and edited robots.txt to keep bots from hitting queries with ?blackhole=.
    I hope that helps:)

In the logs, are the ?blackhole= queries all from the same user agent, IP address, or other similar factors? It could be a rogue bot or some other automated script that is making the requests.
