  • I’m running the Coraline theme on my site, and my comments are automatically threaded and all kinds of messed up. I can’t quite find where to fix that in the CSS, can someone help me out?

    I switched over my preferences too, in the discussion part of the settings, but my old posts still have threaded comments.

    Have you tried turning off threaded comments in Settings->Discussion?

    Yes, I did that but it didn’t change anything. Does WP take time to fix those things? I just did it a few hours ago, no changes that I can see. (Checked my latest 2 posts)

    No – all changes are immediate but remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing an updated page/site. Or try emptying your browser cache. This should ensure that your web browser fetches a fresh copy of the page rather than serving up an out-dated copy from your own cache.

    Also disable/deactivate any caching plugin(s).

    No change after clearing my cache/all my browser history.

    Have you edited the theme at all? Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    I’d like to figure out the CSS to edit the theme, if possible. It’s why I posted here. Because I’m a CSS novice and I don’t particularly want to switch themes, if possible.

    your theme has some custom styles (no idea if this is genuine to coraline, or where it comes from; it is linked in the header <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="" /> ) some of which concern the comments and lead to the distorted layout.

    one of which is:

    .comment-meta {
    border-left:1px solid #d8d7d7;
    margin:1px 0 1px 120px;
    padding:20px 20px 10px;

    another one:

    .comment-author {
    margin:25px 10px 0 0;

    (it is not clear to me what the intended desing of the comment area is, and what these above styles are supposed to do)

    adding .comment{clear: left;} seems to help a bit with the alignment; but there are many other issues.

    adding .comment{clear: left;} seems to help a bit with the alignment.

    btw, imho, detailed CSS help is not the main focus of this forum.
