[Resolved] Remove the "must be attached to current menu item" requirement

  • Please make it possible to add any image from the media library, without it necessarily being “attached” to current menu item by the standard attachment mechanism.

Rationale: I added a menu item of type “page”, uploaded menu item images to it, and then I changed my mind and decided I want a URL menu item instead because I actually need to link to an anchor within the page. This involves deleting and recreating the menu item, since WordPress does not allow to convert between menu item types. Unfortunately with the “must be attached to current menu item” requirement this also means I must upload the item images again instead of just being able to select them from the library.

I can’t do this because current way is simplest, with best performance and most standard compliant, while most users don’t change menu items the way you do and don’t need that.
