    Beautiful plugin all the same.
Was wondering how I can remove the subtitle from the breadcrumbs.
My subtitle is usually a long sentence, so it looks weird when it shows up in the breadcrums.
Please, how do I remove it from showing up?

    Hi there,

Would you mind giving me your URL?

This is probably a case of simple CSS being able to help you out.

It’s super-late in Vietnam right now so I won’t be able to get back to you until tomorrow. Thank you for understanding!

    Cheers,

BTW, I stopped putting text in the subtitle field because of this. But you can see an example with an old post here

Hi there. Could you email support@professionalthemes.nyc and I’ll have my team look at this for you? It’s been impossible for me to find free personal time for it. Thank you!

    Hi Philip

Thanks for a brilliant plug-in. Did anyone get a chance to look at this issue? I’m having a similar problem, in that there’s a weird interaction between the subtitle and the breadcrumbs, but with the opposite effect:

I’m using Yoast breadcrumbs, and if I set the breadcrumb to say

    Part1: foobar

and then put ‘foobar’ into the subtitle ‘foobar’ then disappears from the breadcrumb (but ‘Part 1:’ is still there).

This is happening when the page is a couple of levels deep. I think I’ve also seen dannyogolo’s issue with higher-level pages.

It’s not particularly a problem for me as the fact that I now have the subtitle means that I can have a shorter breadcrumb.

Hm. Do you mean when you use duplicate words that there’s a bug? You may be on to something. The only way that I skipped over this was detecting duplications so if there are strings that are identical, there may be something that I didn’t catch. Can you list out the steps for me, one by one, of how to reproduce the bug? I’m finally back from the dead and able to put some time into bug hunting, so if this is something I need to get fixed, I’ll make sure to file it into GitHub ASAP. Thanks so much!

    Hi Philip

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Here’s a sample page:

    http://italy-cycling-guide.info/cycleways-cycle-routes/international-cycle-routes/fvg1-ciclovia-alpe-adria-radweg/part-1

In the Yoast Breadcrumbs field I have:

    Part 1 Tarvisio to Venzone

and in the Subtitle field, I have

    Tarvisio to Venzone'

and on the page, the breadcrumb shows simply

    Part 1

I get the same thing in Chrome so it’s not Safari being weird.

My apologies in advance if it turns out to be I’ve got something wrong in the markup!

I don’t know where that trailing apostrophe came from…

It’s not your markup at all. Try this. Change the subtitle to TarvisiA to Venzone and see what happens. If things look okay then I might have an idea about what’s happening.

    Hi Philip

Yep. I changed the subtitle to something different from the breadcrumb and the breadcrumb text has reappeared.

(Changed to ‘The Austria-Italy border to Tarvisio and Venzone’)

Okay. I think this is the root issue and why I added it into the plugin. The intention is to not output any subtitles when breadcrumbs are used because it would take up too much space and I didn’t want to touch Yoast. But it seems like in your case, when the subtitle is the same as the breadcrumb (where are you setting the breadcrumb, is it custom, because your post title is different than the breadcrumb) then I just bail out on both at the same time which isn’t great.

    Hi Philip

Thanks. I must admit I’d rather keep the breadcrumbs and the subtitle – even if it means that I need ensure they are different.

Yes to answer your question I was using the breadcrumb to provide additional information to avoid making the title overly long (I don’t want to avoid titles that are more than a line long). I was doing this partly because I hadn’t found a way to add subtitles. But now I have. although I probably will continue to have the breadcrumb different from the post title – for the sake of keeping the breadcrumb to one line as well.

Thanks again for such a useful plugin.

Thanks so much for understanding Andy. I will play with this and make sure that edge cases like this are somehow taken into account without messing up a ton of sites. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!

    You too Philip.
