  • What is the best way for me to remove the option for a user to choose the site name for their blog at registration time? For consistency purposes, I would like site names to default to usernames.

  • You could either make your own signup, or you could hide that field with CSS.

    In wp-signup.php I modified:

    .mu_register #blogname { display:none }

    The site name field does not come up anymore but I get the following error when I submit:

    Please enter a site name.

    When you don’t hide it, does the username auto-fill in?

    Remember: If you already have a site with your name, it won’t do it twice.

    In fact, we have an LDAP plugin that pulls username from our server (Simple LDAP Authentication). So users are already logged in when they go on to create a blog. Under this scenario, could sites be created when users first login (but not register obviously)?

    That didn’t answer my question though 😀

    When you don’t hide it, what gets put in by default?

    Sorry about that Ipstenu, I should know better… When a user accesses wp-signup.php, the choices are

    • Site name
    • Site title

    All fields are blank. Under site name and above the blank field, our main site URL is listed.

    Okay, that’s not normal, which is the (alas) problem. If you looked at a clean install, it would autofill your name unless you already have a site. So I think your LDAP plugin is wiping that out. Ugh.

    Maybe can force it?

    Thanks Mika. I’ll give that a shot. I’ll let you know.
