* I can’t believe that the WP team still use headings for styling purpose.
* Anyway, how can we change the Sharedaddy headline H3 to a DIV without hacking
the plugin files?

* That can’t be done right now, but we’ll see about adding a filter allowing you

* Is there somewhere a discussion about using headings (h1 – h6) outside the content
in plugins and themes?
* That’s completely wrong!
It’s not possible to use a proper heading structure,
because all standard WP themes and plugins using it for design purposes.

it’s everywhere used in WP

* There is no such requirement for plugins. As you probably know, there are no
accessibility standards to respect for a plugin to be accepted in WordPress’
plugin directory. If that were to become a requirement, members of the plugin
review team would have to review each and every plugin in the directory; that
would not be an easy task.
If you have some ideas to introduce such a standard
in WordPress’ plugin directory, I would suggest that you join the discussions
of the Plugins team on Slack, or on their blog here: [https://make.wordpress.org/plugins/](https://make.wordpress.org/plugins/)
You’ll find their Slack meeting times in the sidebar there.
* For themes, there are a few standards to respect if you want your theme to be
hosted in the theme directory and use the `accessibility-ready` tag. These standards
