Support » Themes and Templates » Remove Pipe from Title on Search?

  • Hello,
whenever I type my blog titles in on google at the end of a title there is a pipe symbol – I can’t find it anywhere else on my blog just on the search title. Is there any way I can remove this?
Any CSS codes I can use? is the site
I have a twenty eleven child theme also.

Can you give an example of what to type into Google?

if you type in ‘paris pharmacy haul’ my link should be on the first page!
    Thank you

I don’t know if that’s just on the UK google though

    It’s in your webpage’s <title> elements .
Try disabling plugins to explore whether the problem could be related to them.

    I only have 4 plugins,
Jetpack, A font editing plugin, Advanced Code editor and Child theme and just tried disabling them all and none have made a difference. Is it just a case of messing around with the settings on each plugin to see if it makes a difference?

That pipe is from logic used in wp_title() in header.php of TwentyEleven (and many others) it takes for granted that the site will always has a Site Title AND a Tagline ( which will be used in title tag too ).

    Your site doesn’t have Tagline.

Why not ? just go to the setting page and enter something ( keywords ) relevants to the site, the Tagline or is also useful for search engine, there is no benefit on missing out on this one.

In addition to that, there are bugs (or whatever you call it) in wp_title() and is in process of improving, see these tickets

Add a better option for <title> tags

Do not prefix wp_title() with spaces if $sep is empty

oh that’s brilliant thanks, it makes sense to have a tagline I was just not sure why it was doing that.
    Thank you for your help
