Is it possible to remove an item from the Dashboard? There is one plug-in which registered users of my site do not need (they have Author role), but it appears ontheir Dashboard. Better if it wasn't there at all.

I once used a plugin that removed "Comments" from the Dashboard, so maybe do a search for one that will do the same for whatever you would like to have removed...

not much luck with finding an appropriate plug-in, however have just managed to crash my site completely by installing a plug-in that looked promising!!

am just about to raise a support ticket with my hosting company!!

is there another way to configure the dashboard?

Not that I know about, but someone here might. If I may ask, what are you hoping to hide or disable?

Fancybox Lite adds a lightbox display to a photo gallery, it looks really good. It also adds a Gallery link to the Dashboard. This really relates to Fancybox Pro when you have the facility to manage galleries entirely through the plug-in. If using the Lite version however you can only create one gallery through the plug-in. What you still do get however is the lightbox display on every gallery you create using the basic WP add media method.

On my site, registered users will be able to create their own galleries and I just feel it would be less distracting and confusing if the plug-in's Gallery link was not on their Dashboard. So I don't want to disable the plug-in, just remove its link from the Dashboard.

This is good, thanks. I did a little more searching around and found Adminimize. It presents options to hide just about everything that appears on the dashboard page based on user role. This plugin has very well presented, easy to understand settings page.

Another item that I noticed gets displayed for my users is Jetpack - not necessary, this plug-in hides it - great stuff.

    Mission accomplished!
