REMOVE gallery image without deleting ?!?!?! (4 posts)

I realize the WP native gallery is a work-in-process, but this is one of those stupid obvious things that should be fixed...

In the WP native gallery, deleting an image from a gallery deletes the image from the Media Library (i.e. completely deleted from the server)

Is there a fix/hack/whatever for the WP native gallery that provides a <REMOVE> function for galleries that does NOT delete images entirely from the server?!?!?!?

    Thank you...

I'm not aware of anything that does this, but a publish/draft setting would be nice.

You could use phpMyAdmin to remove the association between the image and the relevant post but, for the life of me, I can't remember which table(s) and field(s) you'd need to edit right now.

Another option would be to re-upload the image using Admin/Media/Add New. That places the image in the Media Library but does not associate it with any post and, therefore, any gallery.

I do have the fix for this issue, I have made a free WordPress plugin that will exclude an image from the gallery and place in a post. http://scottrasher.com/wordpress-plugin-for-excluding-gallery-pictures-for-adding-to-post/
