Support » How-To and Troubleshooting » Removal of Sidebar

To start off, I have no idea what version of WordPress I am using, but I downloaded it about 6 days ago. I could use some help with my issue if anyone has the time to explain.
I created a site, and I’m using the theme ‘raindrops’ by Tenman it says version 1.009. The theme comes in a 1 and 2 sidebar layout, but I liked the setup and went with it.
I have come to the point where I no longer want a sidebar, but there is no option to just remove it.
I use Godaddy FTP and searched every file. I came across HTML>wp-includes>theme-compat-sidebar.php. I checked other peoples same question and some of the information seemed relatively the same.
My questions – What are the steps to removing a sidebar, while allowing text to flow through the rest of the page (not leave a black bar on the side)?
How do I manipulate these files, even changing small bits of codes like header information (then saving) doesn’t seem to change anything at all.
Thank you to anyone that can help.
